“VII Congress and Associate Symposiums of Vavilov Society of Geneticists and Breeders on the 100th Anniversary of the Department of Genetics of Saint Petersburg State University.”
The Congress is to be held from the 18th to 22nd June, 2019 in Saint Petersburg, Russia on the basis of the "Mikhailovskaya Dacha" campuse of Saint Petersburg State University (109, Saint Petersburg highway, New Petergof).
Within the Congress various plenary sessions, symposiums and poster sessions are designed to show a wide range of contemporary trends in genetics and breeding, including medical and agricultural genetics, symbiogenetics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, systems biology and the history of genetics.
The aims of the Congress are the following:
Submissions are open from March, 2018.
All abstracts are to be reviewed by the members of the Programme committee. The authors of selected abstracts after being reviewed by the Programme Committee will be provided with the opportunity to prepare oral or poster presentations at the Congress.

The VII Congress and Associate Symposiums of Vavilov Society of Geneticists and Breeders on the 100th Anniversary of the Department of Genetics of Saint Petersburg State University was held during June, 18-22, 2019 in Saint Petersburg with its venue based on Saint Petersburg State University campus „Mikhailovskaya Dacha“. The Congress achieved to become the most representative scientific conference in the history of the Society: over 1,400 participants from 33 countries delivered more than 400 oral talks and 600 poster presentations in the frames of 20 symposia, three round tables and two associated conferences. The average age of the Congress participants was 35 years. The delegate meeting of VSGB resulted in election of the new VSGB President, Vice-Presidents, Scientific Secretary, Central Council and agreement on the forthcoming VIII VSGB Congress to be held in Saratov in 2024 on the base of Saratov Chernyshevskiy State University. Professor Sergey Inge-Vechtomov was awarded with a VSGB medal “For outstanding contribution to development of genetic education”, and professors Ekaterina Karmanova and Vladimir Kobylyanskiy received anniversary medals “50 years of VSGB”. The worldwide-scale competitiveness of genetic researches being undertaken in Russia was acknowledged by most of the Congress participants, with several innovative research lines claiming for international leadership.
The organizing committee of VII VSGB Congress express their heartfelt gratitude to the authorities of Saint Petersburg State University (SPbSU), Vavilov Institute of General Genetics of Russian Academy of Sciences (VIGG RAS), All-Russia Research Institute of Agricultural Microbiology (ARRIAM), Federal Research Centre Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICG SB RAS) and Federal Research Centre N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (VIR) for their partnership in arranging the Congress. The organizing committee of VII VSGB Congress are immensely grateful to sponsors of the Congress whose funding make the event possible, and earnestly ask the participants to familiarize themselves thoroughly with the information materials provided by the sponsors.
The Congress consider collaboration with the governmental institutions of Russia to be of extreme significance referring to the issues of supporting young scientists, establishment of establishing expert community and selecting personnel to satisfy the needs for sustainable development of domestic genetics and breeding. In this regard the Congress positively admit that the state accords importance to development of genetic research in medicine, agriculture, biotechnology and biosecurity which is further reinforced by the Presidential Decree no. 680 of 28 November, 2018.
The Congress admit utter lack of educational programmes on genetics, genomics and breeding and respective qualified personnel. Therefore, the Congress suggest increasing target admission levels for respective programmes in higher education, elaboration of novel educational programmes with a special stress on the programmes related to plant and animal breeding and introduction of further training course system operated by academic universities and leading research institutions.
The Congress strongly suggest the system of genetic education that will ensure development of modern educational programmes for higher education institutions specialized in breeding which would embody classic breeding subjects and cutting-edge genetic techniques such as genome editing. On the enrolling on master’s programmes on genetics and breeding institutions are urged to give preference to applicants having their bachelor’s degrees in the respective field.
The Congress recommend the newly elected governance body members of VSGB to consider further development of awards including VSGB medals which could encourage the achievements of the Society members in both research and education fields.
The Congress draw attention to the crucial role of activities aimed to establish the consolidated system of genetic collections and genomic biobanks for successful delivering both fundamental and applied researches in biotechnology, medicine and agriculture.
The Congress recommend the Presidium of VSGB to actively interact with the authorized officials of scientific foundations in Russia on elaborating the most prominent and relevant problems of genetic and genomic research.
The Congress recommend the Central Council of VSGB to reinforce the analytic expertise in revealing the most perspective and relevant goals for development of genetics and breeding and their subsequent translation to the Russian genetic community.
Finally, the Organizing Committee of VII VSGB Congress express their immense gratitude to all the Congress participants and hope for fruitful cooperation in the future!

Please find your poster in scientific programme (for convenience we recommend to use Ctrl+F keyboard shortcut) to make sure that the tittle of your presentation is stated correctly. In case your presentation is absent in the respective list, please contact Organizing Committee at gen2019@spbu.ru.
Participants of Symposia I-VII, X present their posters on June 19 from 17.30 to 18.30 (posters must be placed before 12.15, June 19 and removed up to 18.30, June 20).
Participants of Symposia VIII-IX, XI-XX, Round tables and Associated events present their posters on June 21 from 18.00 to 19.00 (posters must be placed before 12.00, June 20 and removed up to 16.00, June 22).
All poster should be no more than 95 cm in height and 95 cm in width. The poster presentations must be performed either in English or in Russian.
Each poster has an allocated number provided in the scientific programme that will be indicated on a respective poster board.
